What We Do

Farm The Earth

With our Farm the Earth program, we provide experiential learning opportunities in gardens and on farms, connecting people of all ages to how food grows, building practical skills & community.
Our goals are:
  • To develop and conduct eco-literacy programs and events in school gardens and on organic farms across northern New Jersey.
  • To focus on four-season growing of vegetables, herbs, fruits, nuts, berries and edible flowers.
  • To conduct design/build classes around greenhouses, chicken coops, bee hives, clay ovens, rain gardens, pollinator gardens, rain barrels, irrigation, fencing and other permaculture solutions.

Cool The Earth

With the Cool The Earth program, we educate K-8 students and their families about global climate change and inspire them to take simple actions to reduce their carbon emissions. Run by a group of parents and teachers, the program is successful because it empowers children and it's fun!

Communityearth partners with Cool the Earth Inc. to run the program at St. Joseph School (Mendham, NJ), Alexander Hamilton School, Unity Charter School, Thomas Jefferson School and Hillcrest School, all located in Morristown, New Jersey. We continue to expand the schools in the Cool the Earth network and would like to enroll more public, private and parochial schools.
To inquire about adding your school, please contact info@communityearth.net.

Unity Charter School

Unity Charter School is a tuition-free, public school that offers a unique approach to education for students from Kindergarten through 8th Grade in Morris Township and surrounding communities. Unity Charter School provides a complete academic program that integrates the principles of sustainability with the New Jersey Core Content Curriculum Standards. The mission of Unity Charter School is not only what is taught – the principles and practices of sustainability – it is also the way it is taught.  The educational approach of experiential learning weaves classroom experience with hands-on learning.

Communityearth was founded as Unity Learning Environments, LLC in 1996 as the fundraising arm for Unity Charter School.  We took on the new name of communityearth as we broadened the focus of our programs and events to include more schools and the larger New Jersey community.

NJ CleanPower Choice Program

An innovative program offering NJ households and businesses an opportunity to have their electric energy needs met by clean technologies - like wind, solar and low-impact hydro.
The CleanPower Choice Program from the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities' Office of Clean Energy is a statewide program that allows you to choose clean, renewable sources of energy. By choosing CleanPower, you're choosing to support the generation of renewable energy sources that diversify our energy supply and help create a healthier environment. Solar power. Wind power. Low-impact or small hydro power. Landfill gas power. Clean power, that's good for the environment, good for the climate, and good for New Jersey.

When you make the CleanPower Choice, electricity is generated from clean, renewable energy sources located in New Jersey and the mid-Atlantic region. Importantly, the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities' Office of Clean Energy verifies that renewable energy is delivered into the Mid Atlantic power pool that serves your needs. The more people who sign up for the CleanPower Choice Program, the more renewable energy sources that will be added to the energy mix. Also, each household that participates in the CleanPower Choice Program can reduce CO2 emissions by over 10,000 lbs. per year, which is equivalent to planting 1.35 acres of trees!
